beachy things: Beach Cities Ch. 01 | ‘Beneath That Wave’

It’s finally here! Beach Cities Ch. 01 has arrived and you can check it out with your eyeballs/ears below. So why’d it take so long? And why is it in pieces? Great questions! It all started when I realized I wasn’t that good at music. Then I didn’t do anything for a couple years. But shortly after that I had the 2nd grade summer reading assignment intended takeaway that art should be done for your own enjoyment and to challenge yourself. But I still had a problem: my music was pretty mid.

I recently went to Tokyo and saw the Studio Ghibli Museum. Tacking on to what a cool city Tokyo is, the museum was pretty sick because it took you through the history animation and what inspired Hayao Miyazaki to create these awesome worlds. That dude loves smoking cigarettes. It was nuts to see how Miyazaki created these crazy universes out of a shelf full of books and the world around him. This got me to thinking that I could combine my mediocre jams with some lackluster animations to make something actually pretty special. Like a collection of little moments around Long Beach. So without further filler, here’s Chapter 1 of Beach Cities (I don’t know when the rest will be out, but it will trust me bro lol):
